Our Story

More Than Just Sheds, We're Part of the Community

High Country Sheds & Carports started with a simple idea: give people in our region the same quality builds the big companies offer, but with the personal service and genuine care that only a local family business can provide.

Based in the heart of Crows Nest, we've built our reputation one project at a time, from small backyard sheds to large-scale commercial builds across the Toowoomba Region, Lockyer Valley, and wider Darling Downs.

We're not a franchise. We're not a call centre. When you ring us, you're talking to the people who'll actually be on your job. That's how we like it, and it's why our clients keep coming back and referring their mates.

Meet the Team

The People Behind Every Build

We're a tight-knit crew of locals who take pride in every project. Get to know the faces behind High Country Sheds & Carports.

Jack Thorpe

Director

A Crowy local his whole life, Jack started Jack Thorpe Constructions about 8 years ago before launching High Country Sheds & Carports in July 2025. He's hands-on with everything, one day on the tools, the next in the office, and sometimes both in the same day.

Jack likes being involved from start to finish, making sure things are done right without overcomplicating it. At the end of the day, it all started pretty simply, just hard work, and it's grown from there. Nothing fancy, just good work and looking after people along the way.

Sarah Thorpe

Co-Director

A lifelong Crowy local, Sarah focuses on the people and the bigger picture, looking after HR, accounts, and the day-to-day management of the business while Jack's out on the tools.

She's across everything that keeps the team supported and the business running properly behind the scenes. Outside of work, Sarah is also a full-time mum to four kids under 15, so life is busy, loud, and never boring. She's the one making sure the team, the business, and everything in between stays balanced and moving forward.

Josh Thorpe

Site Supervisor

A Goombungee local, Josh has been with the team since the early days of Jack Thorpe Constructions. He oversees jobs out in the field, making sure everything runs smoothly, safely, and to a high standard.

Josh is hands-on and leads by example, getting in, working alongside the crew, and making sure every job is something they're proud to put their name to. Being part of the growth of the business has been a big thing for him.

Why He Loves Working Here

The team vibe
Learning leadership skills from Jack
The pride everyone takes in their work

Jason Spies

Operations Manager

Jason keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, overseeing our day-to-day operations, coordinating our crews and helping keep each project on track. He's the go-to guy for making sure the moving parts all come together from start to finish.

Jason joined the High Country team in September 2026, bringing with him plenty of hands-on experience, industry knowledge and a practical approach to getting things done. He brings a fresh perspective to the team and plenty of know-how to help keep things moving.

Why He Loves Working Here

Team morale is second to none
Professional development is always supported
No micro-managing, trusted to do the job

Oscar Root

4th Year Apprentice

A Pechey local, Oscar has been part of the team since the very start at Jack Thorpe Constructions. As a 4th-year apprentice, he's putting everything he's learned into practice every day on site.

Oscar loves being on site, helping the team, and seeing projects come together from start to finish. There's nothing quite like walking past a finished shed or carport and knowing he played a part in building it. He's still picking up new tricks all the time.

Why He Loves Working Here

Great perks: fuel cards, pay rises, team bonding days
Supportive team to work alongside
Variety of projects keeps the work interesting

Proud to Support Our Community

Being part of a regional community means more than just running a business here. It means showing up, on the golf course, at the bowls club, at local fundraisers, and wherever our neighbours need a hand. Here are some of the causes and clubs close to our hearts.

Sponsorships

Crows Nest Golf Club

A proud sponsor of our local golf club, where Jack served as captain for three years. A beautiful 9-hole country course and a true community hub.

Crows Nest Bowls Club

Supporting the local bowls club, a welcoming spot where old-fashioned country hospitality meets competitive spirit on the green.

Charity Events

Girls Night Out

Proud sponsors of this annual community event, supporting a different local cause or beneficiary each year.

Blush Cancer Care

A Toowoomba-based charity supporting breast cancer patients across the Darling Downs with care nurses, education forums, and wellbeing programs.

All Night Long

A 42km overnight charity walk supporting Queensland's sickest kids through Ronald McDonald House Charities and Children's Hospital Foundation.

Local Projects

Crows Nest District Men's Shed

Supporting our local Men's Shed, a not-for-profit community space where men connect through woodwork, metalwork, and mateship.

Crows Nest Hall

Contributing to the upkeep and improvement of our local community hall, the heart of town events and gatherings.

Crows Nest Showgrounds

Proud to have contributed to the Crows Nest Showgrounds, with a plaque recognising High Country's involvement in community projects.

Jack, the founder of High Country Sheds, served as Captain of the Crows Nest Golf Club for three years, a role that reflects his commitment to community leadership and the spirit of getting involved, not just supporting from the sidelines.
